Empowering the Future: A Look Back at the Girls Leadership Camp 2024

The Girls Leadership Camp held on December 14, 2024, at the serene Balay ni Tatay Farm Resort in Babatngon, Leyte, marked a vibrant culmination of FundLife’s Life Skills Plus (LSP) Project. Forty-five young women from partner schools, including Scandinavian National High School, Tacloban National Agricultural School, and Antonio Balmes National High School, gathered to participate in a day filled with engaging activities, insightful learning sessions, and inspiring moments of personal growth.

The camp was structured to help participants develop leadership skills through fun and dynamic activities. Each exercise was designed to impart practical teamwork, communication, adaptability, and creative problem-solving lessons. One of these activities was the Leadership Circle, which emphasized how balancing various strengths within a team contributes to collective success, followed by the Egg Relay Race highlighted the importance of patience, attention to detail, and teamwork—critical traits for effective leadership. Another set of activities, the Leadership Relay Race and Group Juggle, taught adaptability and quick thinking under time pressure and highlighted the significance of each participant’s role, fostering communication and collaboration.

Furthermore, the Blind Drawing Challenge showcased the necessity of clear communication in leadership, while Group Sculpting reinforced the value of diverse perspectives and collaborative creativity in building ideas. Employability stations added a professional edge to the camp. Participants navigated four dynamic stations: the Logical Thinking Challenge tested problem-solving skills, the Interview Test simulated real-world job interviews, the Networking Challenge honed their interpersonal skills, and the Spaghetti and Marshmallow Tower underscored the importance of teamwork and innovation.

A highlight of the day was the Social Enterprise Pitching Event, culminating in the social enterprise pathway under the LSP Project. Six groups pitched innovative startup ideas, with three receiving seed funding of ₱30,000 each to kickstart their ventures. Winning ideas included Christine’s eco-friendly initiative of turning recycled plastics into handicrafts, Karel’s Feeds Store addressing the needs of local hog and poultry farmers, and Jeanalyn and Jessamae’s community bakeshop. Judges, including esteemed professionals, previous Business Counselors under the Department of Trade and Industries, Negosyo Center Program, Wenna Jo M. Mabansag, and Earl Paul M. Sarabia, provided constructive feedback, enriching the girls’ entrepreneurial journeys.

The event concluded with an awarding ceremony celebrating the girls’ achievements and commitment. Notable awards included the Most Empowered Girl Award, Future Leader Award, Girl Up Award, and Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. These accolades honored their hard work and steadfast dedication to the Girls Got This initiative. The Girls Leadership Camp allowed participants to reflect on their journey with the LSP Project, highlighting the transformative impact of experiential learning, purposeful play, and leadership training. The picturesque venue provided a refreshing environment for these young women to dream, connect, and embrace their potential.

FundLife remains committed to empowering vulnerable youth through innovative programs, ensuring they have the skills, confidence, and support to lead meaningful, independent lives.
