Skill-Building for Success: Nail Care Training Under the Life Skills Plus Program

On December 6, 2024, the Generation Amazing Community Club (GACC) at Babatngon Road, Northern Tacloban, became a hub of empowerment and learning as twelve young women participated in Nail Care Training. This activity was part of the Life Skills Plus (LSP) Program under the Girls Got This Initiative, aiming to equip participants with employable skills and open pathways to financial independence. The training was facilitated by TESDA-certified trainer Sherry Peñaranda, who guided the participants through theoretical lessons and practical applications of manicure and pedicure techniques. Each participant received a complete manicure and pedicure kit to support their learning journey, enabling them to continue practicing their skills beyond the training session.

The participants, eager to learn, represented three different schools: one from Northern Tacloban City National High School, four from Guadalupe Heights Integrated School, and seven from Scandinavian National High School. They were paired during the hands-on training, allowing them to apply their newfound skills collaboratively and gain confidence in performing professional nail care services. The training provided technical expertise, a sense of accomplishment, and a foundation for future opportunities.

The Nail Care Training is one of three pathways offered under the LSP TESDA Pathway. It aims to empower young women by providing them with tangible skills that can serve as a means of livelihood. This initiative is aligned with the mission of Girls Got This, which is to empower vulnerable girls and young women by combining innovative education with practical training. Programs like this address the pressing need for economic opportunities in marginalized communities while fostering self-reliance and resilience among participants.

For these young women, learning nail care is a stepping stone toward greater self-confidence and economic independence. Whether they pursue careers in the beauty industry or use their skills as an additional source of income, they now have the tools to take charge of their futures. The enthusiasm and dedication they displayed during the training reflect their determination to overcome barriers and build brighter lives for themselves.

The Girls Got This initiative remains committed to its mission of empowering girls and young women through education, skill-building, and economic empowerment. By creating meaningful opportunities like this Nail Care Training, the program continues to inspire and equip young women to dream in color and achieve their fullest potential. Through initiatives like this, we take another step closer to a world where all girls are safe, confident, and capable of shaping their destinies.
